Professional Consultation

Consultation

I offer hourly case consultation on LGBTQ+ and Non-Monogamy/Polyamory issues. Because these are topics that can sometimes feel difficult to navigate with clients, professional consultation with someone who specializes in these areas can be helpful.  There are many more queer, trans, ENM, and polyamorous clients than there are therapists who specialize in these areas!  Sometimes a bit of professional consultation can help you feel competent working with these types of clients without feeling like you need to refer out.

*Please note that my training on working with couples is predominantly in EFT, and any general "how to work with couples" parts of consultation will draw from that modality.

Topics for consultation:

ENM and Polyamory:

  • How to help a couple who wants to open their relationship

  • Is it the right time for my couple to open their relationship?

  • When a couple is engaging in ENM practices that you think are unethical

  • What resources on ENM can I trust?

  • General consult for an ENM couple with whom you feel stuck

  • What is the difference between ENM and Poly?  What if partners want different things?

  • How to help partners create ethical agreements around ENM

  • How much should couples be sharing with each other about their dates/sex?

  • Jealousy! What you can do when partners want non-monogamy but are suffering

  • How does "cheating" work in an ENM relationship and how can I help my clients through it?

  • How many partners is too many partners? Is my client polysaturated?

  • How to work with more than 2 in the room

  • and more!

LGBTQ+:

  • What to do when a partner first comes out

  • When a bisexual partner doesn't feel understood by their straight partner

  • What if a client comes out as trans but their partner is straight?

  • What if my personal or religious beliefs make it hard to work with LGBTQ+ clients?

  • How can I help a queer or trans client feeling hopeless about acceptance in the world?

  • When a client says they're experiencing discrimination but I don't know if I believe them

  • When a client says they're trans but their outward appearance doesn't seem to match

  • How young is too young to know that you are trans? When kids come out

  • How to support gender-questioning elementary kids and teenagers

  • and more!
